Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation and KAEYC are pleased to announce this exciting grant opportunity available to KAEYC members. The goal is to promote wellness of young children in Kansas by increasing physical activity and encouraging healthy eating. KAEYC Announces a Call for Proposals for the 2012 KAEYC Professional Development Event

The KAEYC Professional Development Event is scheduled for October 13,2012 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.  The theme of the conference is "Healthy Hearts and Healthy Minds".

This professional development event is expected to draw over 300 participants. Conference attendees work with children, birth through age twelve, and represent a variety of disciplines: family child care, early childhood preschool, infant-toddler, after-school, kindergarten, special education, health, psychology, teacher education, and administration. Professionals, students, and parents are encouraged to attend.

General Information
  • Proposal content should reflect inclusive, developmentally and culturally appropriate practice in family, center and school-based early education and care programs.  Please be specific about topic and general methods of presentation.  If there is not enough information given on the application, the presentation may not be accepted.

  • Proposals will be selected that have audience appeal, show innovation, and represent current issues in early care and education.

  • Proposals containing any of the following will automatically be excluded: those with learning content that conflicts with childcare licensing regulations; those with religious content; those done with the purpose of selling materials; “ make it/take it” presentations.

  • All handouts are the responsibility of the presenter.

  • Registration fees are waived for ONE presenter per presentation.
  •  Sessions will be 1.25 hours in length, with an option of one 2.5-hour session in the afternoon.

  • Information provided on proposed presentations will be used in order to obtain Continuing Education Unit credit through Kansas State University.

  • Presenters must provide their own technology (laptops/projectors).  The Union will provide an AV cart and electrical source for each room.

  • Core Competencies for Early Childhood and Youth Development Professionals (Kansas and Missouri) is a framework that defines the standards for early childhood and youth development professionals.  Core competencies are what you need to know to provide quality early childhood activities and interactions.  In order to provide a variety of professionals development experiences, presenters are asked to provide information on the target audience and the most applicable Core Competency Content Area for their presentation.

2012-2014 KAEYC Board of Director Elections

Dear KAEYC Members,

In accordance with Article VI, Section 5 and Article VII, Section 2 of the KAEYC Bylaws, the 2012 Nomination Committee does hereby present nominations for all Officers and Members-at-Large of the Governing Board who are to be voted on in this election.  The Nomination Committee has made every effort to provide a slate of officers that reflects our commitment to provide diverse leadership and offer members a choice of nominees on the ballot.

Each nominee has provided a Candidate Statement for members to read and review.  Nominees chosen by the membership will be contacted and results of the election will be published in the August edition of Hand in Hand, the quarterly KAEYC membership newsletter.

Thank you for taking the time to review candidate information and cast your vote.  Ballots must be postmarked no later than June 15, 2012.
